About Us
Established in 1983 by the Macoupin County Board, the Macoupin County Public Health Department is guided by the Board of Health and dedicated to protecting and improving the well-being of the communities we serve.
What began as a single location with a team of just nine employees has grown into a dynamic public health organization serving residents across Macoupin and Montgomery counties. Today, more than 140 professionals work across six locations, delivering a wide range of programs and services designed to support healthier individuals, families, and communities.

How We Carry Out Our Mission
MCPH believes good health is a fundamental right for individuals, families, and the entire community. We are committed to working alongside residents to prevent disease, promote wellness, and protect public health throughout Macoupin County. Our dedicated and compassionate staff and providers fulfill this commitment through:
- Assessing and analyzing community health conditions
- Developing and supporting local public health policies
- Preventing and controlling disease through health promotion, early intervention, and health protection
- Enforcing state laws and local health ordinances when applicable
- Ensuring access to personal health care services
- Reducing the impact of disease and disability
- Operating programs in accordance with certification standards from the Illinois Department of Public Health
- Coordinating with community partners to build a comprehensive and responsive local health system
