Coordinated School-Based Care
Macoupin County Public Health Department provides convenient, coordinated healthcare for students ages 3–18 — right where they learn and grow. Our approach supports the whole child, addressing physical health, emotional well-being, and healthy development. By making care accessible and prevention a priority, we help students build lifelong healthy habits so they can thrive in school and beyond.
Why Have a School-Linked Health Center
Healthy students are better learners. School-linked Health Centers remove barriers that often prevent children from getting the care they need. Our program helps:
- Reduce school absences caused by illness
- Keep students healthy, focused, and ready to learn
- Provide convenient access to care regardless of income or insurance
- Identify and treat health concerns early — before they become serious
- Support emotional and mental well-being alongside physical health
- Promote healthy habits and reduce risky behaviors through education
- Improve overall student health to enhance learning and quality of life
How We Support Student Health
We meet students’ needs through care that is accessible, responsive, and tailored to young people. This is done by providing:
- Age-Focused Care -Our School-Linked Health Center team focuses on the unique physical, emotional, and developmental needs of school-age patients.
- Easy Access to Care - Our close partnership with schools and school nurses allows us to coordinate referrals quickly and efficiently. In many cases, students who need care can be seen the same day. Ongoing collaboration helps ensure strong follow-up and continuity of care.
